I read a wide variety of books, though science fiction is my favourite. I learned to read very young probably because both my Mum and Dad love to read. In my dream house I would have to have one room as a library. Both my husband and daughter also like to read and my daughter writes fan fiction stories on her site.
Anne McCaffrey
A very prolific science fiction writer, she has won the Hugo and Nebula awards. I particularly like the Dragon series of books at my last count that was 15 books. The Crystal singer books. The Talent series. The Tower and the hive series and those of you who chat to me on messenger will know my alias and geocaching name is a character from these books. There are also many individual novels. To find out more here is a link to her site. Sadly Anne Passed away on 21st November 2011 at the age of 85.
Frank Herbert
His series of books about Dune, the desert planet have since been made into a television series. The first book has also been made into a film. There are computer games also based on his story. He died in 1986, but I am glad to say his son and Kevin J. Anderson are continuing the stories.
Wilbur Smith
Again a very prolific writer, though not science fiction. The first book of his I read when I was about 16 years old. It was Eagle in the sky, it is based in Israel and Africa and is an action book as well as a love story. After reading it I just had to read his others and so far have read them all except the latest 3.
Stieg Larsson
I have just finished the first two books of the trillogy and just started on the last book and can’t put them down. Fantastic reading, great story with an unusual heroine. It is such a pity that the author died just after submitting the manuscripts to the publishers, so he never knew what a success the books would become. The books are called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest. There are rumours of a fourth book as his partner has found a three quarter finished manuscript for it and may complete the work.
Nicholas Udell
Shattered Stories. Vol 1-5. These books are on kindle only thought vol 1 is a paperback. They are collections of short stories. Some of them certainly give you food for thought. Some of the stories carry on through several books, but they can also stand alone.
Other good reads
Alan Dean Foster, Arthur C. Clarke, Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Robin Jarvis, Phillip Pullman
I will try any author as long as the book is a good read.
