I am so excited to start this knitting. My daughter from Bluebell yarns gifted me one of her advent calendars for Christmas. I chose the dark nights themed one, in Blue Face Leicester 4 ply wool. I thought the ideal shawl to knit would be painting bricks by Stephen West. Not that I really need another shawl, but as Stephen says you can never have too many! I plan to do a colour a day, using the mini skein for that day, therefore the colour choice is decided for me. I expect that as it gets larger and nearer to Christmas that might be a difficult task, but we shall see. I will upload the progress daily, so keep checking back to see this exciting project.

Day Two 02.12.2025
Why as a grown woman am I getting so excited about opening the little parcels of wool? It’s great! Well here is today’s colour. A gorgeous rich raspberry pink.

Day Three 03.12.2025
Day Four. 04.12.2025
The formation of the shawl is showing nicely now.

Day Five. 05.12.2025
I’m still very happy with the way these colours are knitting up. Opened the pack first thing this morning, but had things to do. Mainly get a geocache to fill in a gap in my calendar and write some Christmas cards.
Day Six 06.12.2025
I had to resist knitting this up straight away as I had to go out for a geocache again today and dodge the showers. Mission accomplished and knitting done!

Day Seven 07.12.2025
Lovely shades of grey today.

Day Eight 08.12.2025

Day Nine 09.12.2025
Shades of lovely golds and yellows today. Looks great after the purple of yesterday. Really makes the colours pop. Looks just like the lights of a city.

Day Ten 10.12.2025
Today’s colour is a lovely green. Silly me thought I would leave some rows to do this evening, then realised I wouldn’t be able to take a photo in daylight. I ended up taking it just as the sun was going down, but I think it came out okay.

Day Eleven 11.12.2025
A lovely variegated mini skein. It brings all the colours so far together.

Day Twelve 12.12.2025
Another lovely variegated skein today. Up to 257 stitches now. 4g used.

Day Thirteen 13.12.2025
What a stunning colour today!

Day 14 2025
Started knitting this up early morning, but then cooked lunch and we put the Christmas tree up and the lights on the tree and around the room. They are programmable so took a while. Anyway knitting completed by early evening. I will try to improve the photo tomorrow in daylight.

Day Fifteen 2025
Horrible dreary rainy day but on the plus side lots of time to knit! 5g of the mini skein used.

Day Sixteen 2025
I am still managing to do a colour a day. Although another increase at the end of today’s knit. I will keep at it.

Day Seventeen 2025
A deep purple today. I am waiting for parcels to arrive today so that gives me a nice lot of knitting time.

Day Eighteen 2025
I made a mistake with the counting so had to rip back a couple of rows. Taken me ages to sort it out. Had to do the last row in the morning of day 19. Phew.

Day Nineteen 2025
I made sure I remembered lots of life lines today and typically didn’t need them, so managed to complete day 19. Hands are aching again from trying to get it done in between shopping and chores.

Day Twenty 2025
I managed to finish this on time but I was in Wimborne for Bournemouth and district concert band’s Christmas concert in Wimborne Minster. Becca was playing her flute and did a couple of solos. The wi fi in the hotel we were staying in wasn’t up to uploading photos. So I had to wait until we got home on 21st.

Day Twenty one 2025
Couldn’t start today’s knitting until we got back home from Wimborne. Just about got it done. I took the photo when the Christmas lights were on. I will get one in daylight tomorrow.

Day Twenty Two 2025
Didn’t think I would complete today. I have been baking and cooking most of the day. It is Becca’s birthday on Christmas Day and I always make a cake with a Star Gate theme.

Day Twenty Three 2025
Finished this one 9pm! Waited until this morning to take the photo.

Day Twenty Four
The last colour of the calendar. It has taken me until Boxing Day to complete. I did manage to do 2 rows on the 24th but then we went out for our usual Christmas Eve walk on the Somerset Levels. We took a packed lunch with us and a flask of hot drinks as it was bitterly cold from the wind. Once home I had to do more to Becca’s birthday cake. Managed 1 row Christmas Day. For the border I will start to repeat the colours in order.

December 29th 2025
First border section done using day one yarn. Taken a while due to Christmas festivities and the number of stitches.
